Here's the Draft Log for KHM Draft #9

Since they don't currently save P1P1, here it is:
Picture
Here's my thoughts post draft AND after I've played to a 3-3 record:
  • P1P1. Rare - pathway. Not bad colors, but when would I draft this as P1P1. On to the uncommons, Shadowsage is "C" on Deathsie. Svella is an "A" and I agree. Bretagard Stronghold "B" and you really want to be in White/Green. Commons - nothing stands out. Snow Mountain. Wow, the pick the best common here? Maybe Craven Hulk. I guess you could take the Frost Bite. So Svella it is.
  • P1P2. Rare is missing. Fynn is best uncommon that's also aligned with my control nature. Kardur's Saga is good if we know we're going Berserker. I think it's fine to pick up if I know, but it's not a reason to pull me in. Let's look at the commons. Bound in Gold not bad but not a pull into white. Snow Island but not as good as Fynn.
  • P1P3. This is an Ick pack. Rare and a common taken. Bloodline Pretender is reasonable and flexible for colors. Snow dual land way off colors. Priest maybe.
  • P1P4. Another big ick. 2 uncommons and a common taken. Nothing jumps out so I take the Priest for a controlling deck.
  • P1P5. Kaya's Onslaught in case we pivot, as green cards are a bit weak. Otherwise nothing strong in the other colors. Though I guess the Elderleaf Mentor goes with the Pretender.
  • P1P6. More ugly cards. Green/Black dual land - will take it over the Shimmerdrift Vale as locked into one color.
  • P1P7. More ugly cards. I guess the Gladewalker will do.
  • P1P8. Okay some reasonable cards. I guess there's Berg Strider. But the Yew will work for the top end, especially if I can get a Wurm.
  • P1P9. Wheel says... Okay we take the uncommon tapped land. Not much else in this pack. I guess I might go Green + Black or White, splash Red.
  • P1P10. Grim Draugr seems like the best card in this pack for us. Cinderheart Giant is better card but it's not in our current lane.
  • P1P11. Elderleaf Mentor might have been better in a controlling deck. 2nd Priest works though.
  • P1P12. Raise the Draugr works. Leaning more BG now.
  • P1P13. Arachnoform - not horrible for P1P13. Hawk might have been better if any chance of going blue
  • P1P14. Broken Wings is fine for this late. Good removal for Artifacts/Enchancements/Flying. I have found it useful.
  • P1P15. Dogged Pursuit. I wonder if you could make a controlling deck that used a lot of these.
  • P2P1. King Narfi's Betrayal - so blue/black could be a pivot. And the other 3 uncommons are blue. I haven't pivoted, so I take the best common. Arctic Treeline is a good fit for our deck but I'll skip.
  • P2P2. 2nd Fynn? The two other Giant uncommons, not really for us. Behold... So far from playing that now. Struggle is good Fight spell for us.
  • P2P3. Glittering Frost for fixing and Snow, as there's nothing else that jumps out. Snow Forest, I would have taken.
  • P2P4. Saga are off my color. I guess I could have taken first Mammoth Growth over 2nd Struggle.
  • P2P5. Nothing really jumping out, so I take the Snow Swamp.
  • P2P6. Not enough Elves. Shimmerdrift Vale over the Glittering Frost, though the Snow Swamp.
  • P2P7. If I had known, I would have taken the Swamp last time and then this Shimmerdrift. Again, not great cards. I guess I could have taken the Horizon Seeker, but snow land is good.
  • P2P8. Ha. Okay I'll take the Snow-Cover swamp. Someone's getting hooked up with 2 Kolls.
  • P2P9. Well. Okay, I'll take the Arachnoform.
  • P2P10. Fine I'll take Fynn on the wheel.
  • P2P11. Shadowsage, I'll take now. Not enough density in one creature type though.
  • P2P12. Okay. I'll take the Mammoth Growth I wanted earlier.
  • P2P13. Take the 2nd Stronghold
  • P2P14. Gates of Isfell - uncommon picking up.
  • P2P15. Undersea into my Under Sideboard
  • P3P1. Absolute trash. I guess I could have rare drafted here. None of the uncommons fit. I guess I should have taken the Masked Vandal instead of a 3rd Priest of the Haunted Edge. Though in gameplay, you can sacrifice multiple on one turn to get a lot of damage in.
  • P3P2. Since it looks like we're going black. Take the Sinkhole. Don't need a 2nd Yew. I debated on Search for Glory, as rare and could I play it? Ended with the safe land.
  • P3P3. Sagas are off color. Though Fall of the Impostor has worked better than I expected. I guess I'll take my first Jaspera Sentinel. Didn't need a 4th Priest.
  • P3P4. This Saga I'll take as the removal spell.
  • P3P5. Rare draft on the Realmwalker. Not enough density. Thought of taking Tegrid's Shadow - in hindsight, that would have been the right call.
  • P3P6. Boreal Outrider. Very serious threa when I played it. Right pick here.
  • P3P7. Junk pick with the Effigy. Probably could have just picked the higher rarity for vault progress.
  • P3P8. VERY happy to take the Wurm here. Too bad the Outrider is in the same pack.
  • P3P9. Spider to block fliers. This is the wheel.
  • P3P10. I end up with the Search for Glory. Again don't need a 2nd Yw.
  • P3P11. Highest rarity pick
  • P3P12. Rune Crown - will need to play with this in the future
  • P3P13. Arachnoform, on color. Didn't realize it's my 3rd one. Doesn't change the pick though.
  • P3P14-15 sideboard garbage

Reasonable picks. Tegrid's Shadow instead of Realmwalker was probably one good choice. Getting the Elven Mentor as well as the Masked Vandal instead of a Priest. Got to 3-3, so not bad.

Here's the Draft Log for KHM Draft #8.

Since they don't currently save P1P1, here it is:
Picture
As always, here's my thoughts post draft but before playing a game:
  • P1P1. Blessing of Frost seems to require being in snow. I guess not taking it is sending a message. Though, we also have Shimmerdrift Vale in this pack. I took what I thought was the most flexible card yet powerful with Shepherd of the Cosmos to bring back a card to battlefield (like a creature or Rune).
  • P1P2. Okay, nothing really jumps out the Rare is taken. Moritte definitely sends you down the snow way. Rune seems like a safe bet, while keeping the white paths open. Glittering Frost seems early to take in draft. Though useful if we knew we were going down snow. If we had taken Blessing of Frost with P1P1, probably taking Glittering Frost would have been right here.
  • P1P3. Can't ignore the Packmate. Though Spirit of Aldergard might have been the right call if we were going down snow. Berg Strider another snow. So far nobody has taken snow lands.
  • P1P4. Snow Covered Plains - weakest. So Raptor or Sword. Struggle is here as well. Battlefield Raptor is good for aggro, we got the rune and worse case Shepherd of the Cosmos could bring it back.
  • P1P5. Yuck on pack. In hindsight, UG land would have been nice - almost rare picked it. Frostpyre Arcanist doesn't really fit deck but leaves UG options. Was tempted to take Axgard Armory but seems pretty weak without a mythic equipment.
  • P1P6. Thought I might be going Blue. Was tempted to take the Glittering Frost here. Took the more powerful card.
  • P1P7. Okay. I decided to take the Snow Land before taking the payoff of the Icehide Troll. Thought about the Axgard Calvary for aggro Red, but trending toward UG.
  • P1P8. If aggro, we got options here with Helm and Champion. But took the Horizon Seeker to help me find land if I go 3 color snow.
  • P1P9. Okay, I'll take the Shimmerdrift on the wheel. someone took the snow covered mountain before it.
  • P1P10. Moritte wheels. I'll take it.
  • P1P11. Berg Strider wheels. Though Highland Forest wheeling shows snow seems very open.
  • P1P12. Okay, take the Snow Covered Plains.
  • P1P13. Strategic Planning, eh.
  • P1P14. Jaspera Sentinel - a fine fixing card, not horrible to take it 2nd to last in pack
  • P1P15. Master Skald - not horrible for last pick. White open?
  • P2P1. Arctic Treeline fits colors. But powerful rare, even worth splashing for. Frostpeak Yeti - hopefully it wheels or the Treeline.
  • P2P2. Let's take the Island and hope Glittering Frost or Troll wheels. Gates of Isfell would be good option.
  • P2P3. Replicating Ring over Mistwalker. Hope it wheels.
  • P2P4. Icebind Pillar. Guess nobody to my left is playing blue, as a rare and 2 other commons were taken. But Ice Manipulator is too good.
  • P2P5. Shimmerdrift Vale. Raven might have been an option.
  • P2P6. I'll take the on color snow dual land over nothing noteworthy for our snow pile.
  • P2P7. Green uncommon land in our colors as an option to put counters on creatures.
  • P2P8. Um yes please for Behold. The Island was tempting, but can't pass Behold here.
  • P2P9. Yeti wheels.
  • P2P10. Troll wheels. Gates of Isfell did as well but I need the win condition of Icehide Troll more.
  • P2P11. Mistwalker wheels - I guess right. Wow, it went all the way around, just like the Behold.
  • P2P12. Take the Snow Land.
  • P2P13. Ox to sideboard.
  • P2P14. Doomskar Oracle - curve isn't low, so to sideboard
  • P2P15. Mammoth Growth - fine last pick that would actually fit my deck as "removal"
  • P3P1. Debated between Maja and Mistwalker. Double white scared me on Maja. Nothing else really. If Ice Tunnel was on color, I would have taken it. Not enough single creature type for Reflections.
  • P3P2. So. We could have had TWO Blessings of Frost. Rune of Flight was interesting but it seems like we have flying. Hoping Troll or the Snow Dual land wheels.
  • P3P3. Avalanche Caller very good in this deck. Island or Hawk wheel please.
  • P3P4. No snow land. Hm. Raven seems the best option here. Fall of the Impostor with 2 +1/1 counters and exile their highest power card was tempting. Outrider was tempting as a big creature too.
  • P3P5. Snow land not on target. Yeti seems like a good snow pay off.
  • P3P6. Ick. Path to the World tree too late, though I just realized it does go fetch a basic land and I have the shimmerdrift vales. No glittering Frosts though. Ravenform used as "removal", especially with Exile and not destroy.
  • P3P7. Struggle over the Fjord (not on color).
  • P3P8. Iron Verdict for removal over the Yeti.
  • P3P9. And the wheel. Debated on Maja over Broken Wings. Double white was trouble.
  • P3P10. Happy to take the Snow Dual Land. Troll didn't wheel.
  • P3P11. Pilfering Hawk wheels.
  • P3P12. Impostor wheels, nothing else here.
  • P3P13. Happy to take another Jaspara Sentinel here.
  • P3P14. 2nd Skald.
  • P3P15. Spoils to the Sideboard

I felt good about most of this draft. I think the gap I had was looking and understanding the mana base. The curve is a bit high without much 1-2 drops but I have a good # of Foretell. 6 of 17 lands are tap lands. Let's learn how this works. The one thing about the draft is understanding enough signals to say one of these other cards will wheel

KHM Premier Draft #7

Here's the Draft Log for KHM Draft #7:

Since they don't currently save P1P1, here it is:
Picture
As always, here's my thoughts post draft but before playing a game:

P1P1. Maybe should have taken Bind of the Old Gods as a removal spell (Deathsie has it A vs the Rare which is a C). Shimmerdrift Vale was the only other card I was considering. But I said, let's grab the Rare and see if we can make an Elves deck that nobody wants to draft.

P1P2. Best card in pack? Give me options for WR. Oops just saw Deathsie give it a "D" for Koll. Glimpse is an "A", even Moritte is a "B". Nothing else really stands out. Maybe Run Amok. But choice probably should have been Glimpse regardless of pick 1.

P1P3. Kolvori, Deathsie gives a "C" - yeah it was hard to use in Sealed. You need those Legendary creatures. Feels more like a Constructed card. I chose the Glade-Warden because of Shapeshifter. Another Shimmerdrift Vale. Hopefully Koma's Faithful wheels or the Sculptor of Winter. I'm sort of set on my Elves plan.

P1P4. WR seems a bit open so far. Could have pivoted over. Too early to pick the Elderfang Disciple "C". Probably should have taken the Scupltor of Winter and waited for Disciple to wheel.

P1P5. BG uncommon land seems like a good draw. Again hopefully Koma's Faithful wheels but that would be late

P1P6. Wow look at that Raptor. Berg Strider available as well. WU looks open? But I go with my Elves. Snow-Covered Forest was tempting as well.

P1P7. Another Elf. Looks like Snow is wide open.

P1P8. Happily take the Raise the Draugr. Let's see what the wheel brings.

P1P9. Could have taken the Disciple but let's grab the Snow-Covered Forest that wheeled.

P1P10. Raise the Draugr #2. Alpine Meadow wheels but not in our colors.

P1P11. Koma's Faithful does wheel.

P1P12. 3rd Raise the Draugr nice for so late.

P1P13. Roots of Wisdom. Not a bad Elf card. Village Rites isn't bad either.

P1P14. Happily take this Elf in garbage slot.

P1P15. The Giant Ox that's not a Giant for the Sideboard.

P2P1. Packmate seems like the card that will help this deck - Bloodsky Berskerer is the other choice.

P2P2. Grizzled Outrider the Elf. 3 other Elves to wheel.

P2P3. Debated on Skull Raid. Not sure what I was doing drafting snow at this point without any payoffs. Again hope the Disciple wheels.

P2P4. Scupltor of Winter for my 2 snow lands? Path to the World Tree seems too far off.

P2P5. I guess I could have taken a 2nd Sculptor of Winter but Spirit of Aldergard could be good payoff if I get into Snow lands. I think this is me not having enough conviction on going into Snow. Masked Vandal might have been a reasonable alternative here.

P2P6. Return Upon the Tide is a good card for my Elves deck. Look another Sculptor of Winter and Gladewalker. And Duskwielder. Lots of Wheel opportunity.

P2P7. Masked Vandal vs Snakeskin Veil. More Elves.

P2P8. More Elves. I'll take my 3rd Deathknell Berserker vs the 2nd Duskwielder.

P2P9. The Wheel. Weigh Down for removal given that I have a bunch of cheap 2-drops. Let's get some removal. Haven't seen a Feed the Serpent yet.

P2P10. 2nd Duskwielder over the 4th Deathknell.

P2P11. Disciple wheels, not a surprise. I'll take it.

P2P12. Broken Wings is useful with so many Sagas and Fliers and Artifacts.

P2P13-15, happily grab a Duskwielder in the junk area.

P3P1. Was tempted to take the Predator to splash. In hindsight, probably should have. Three Seasons is asking me to splash another way - though it does have mill. Otherwise this pack has the Elderleaf Mentor and another Sculptor of Winter.

P3P2. Boom. Harald fits in. Varragoth is good but doesn't fit in our deck as nicely as King Harald. Hopefully the Mentor or the Revenge wheel. Look at that Demon Bolt. Wow someone took a common from this pack.

P3P3. Should have abandoned Snow here and grabbed the Rune of Might. Outrider is Elf though.

P3P4. Probably should have taken the Goldvein Pick with all these small creatures. This snow plan seems a bit silly in hindsight.

P3P5. Elf, Reach. Skemfar Showmage actually should have been the choice with all these Elves.

P3P6. Seems the most reasonable for this pack.

P3P7. Rune of Mortality or Snakeskin Veil. Rune is also UNC. Wish we had one or two bows or had taken that Pick earlier.

P3P8. In hindsight I should have taken the Arachnoform for reach and for making the wolf into an elf. Wanted Jarl for the "removal".

P3P9. Not enough snow to take the Sculptor. Taking the Mammoth Growth as "removal".

P3P10. Okay King Harald's Revenge wheels.

P3P11. Take the UNC. Don't need a 2nd Broken Wings.

P3P12-15. Pick up a 4th Deathknell Berskerer.

Okay definitely saw some spots where I could have been more flexible. Also should have been thinking about my game plan. Took some "removal" which was key, given that I did not see a Feed the Serpent. Should have taken at least one Pick given the small creatures and the Rise of the Draugr. Seems like a reasonable plan I could have made better.

KHM Premier #2 - Game Analysis

2/7/2021

Game 7 - Was 5-1 at this point
  • Opening Hand. Ick. 3 swamps and need a red source, though I can foretell the Reinforcements on Turn 2. Need a mountain but this is a slow start. Worse case is that I Seize the Spoils if I draw a Mountain.
  • Turn 1. Straight forward. Nice Mountain. Set up foretell on Turn 2 unless I can get some board presence.
  • Turn 2. Too bad I didn't have the Pup in opening hand. But foretell works.
  • OP Turn 2. Solid creature for OP. Go wide?
  • Turn 3. Okay this is s mistake. RW on opposing side, Is should get some creature on field with Reinforcement. Mistake on my side. Pup and Rune would have been fine as well. Seize is too greedy. Could have cast the pup as well with the treasure.
  • Turn 4. Letting OP "conserve" mana by foretell. I should be building a board. Now I pay the price for sacrificing the Mire. Last turn should have clearly been Mire + reinforcements. But at this point, I could have Foretold the Reaper, Dwarven Reinforcement and brought out the Pup. I'm clearly not the beat down and need to play more conservative.
  • OP Turn 5. Look at all those creatures.
  • Turn 5. I am playing really unintentionally which is what happens when you are distracted. I mean I could have cast the Dwarven reinforcements, Pup, and the Rune of mortality and saved the Saga for future.
  • OP Turn 6. The trick comes out and wham. I deserved it.
Game 8

Opening Hand. 1 Swamp + 2 Mountain - good start. Kardur - very good. Feed the Serpent good. Not a fan of the Saga but we'll see. Breakneck Berserker is useful. Sad there's no 2 drop but we'll keep
  • Turn 1. Not sure difference between Snow and non snow to start. I'll do Snow just to make them think I have a snow deck.
  • OP Turn 2. Foretell. Uh oh.
  • Turn 2. Sad to just pass but no 2 drop.
  • OP Turn 3. Solid Packmate 3/3 and replace card in hand.
  • Turn 3. Okay, let's see if they are willing to trade the packmate. I mean I _coudl_ play the Duskwielder but no reason. Get in for 3. Happy to trade but good for 3 damage.
  • OP Turn 4. Seeker and a tapped land. That feels like it will slow them down
  • Turn 4. Let's build out the board before we bring out Kardur.
  • OP Turn 5. My board threatens them. Wow. Not spending 5 mana. Obviously I have the Feed the Serpent.
  • Turn 5. Okay time for Kardur. Okay not to attack this way I can swing for maximum.
  • OP Turn 6. I was very concerned about combat trick on the Seeker. And again, passing with 6 mana up. That was the key on their Turn 5.
  • Turn 6. Let's swing in. Keep feed the Serpent. I am worried about Doomskar. Let's use all the boasts. And at the end of my turn, ah that's why they left mana open.
  • OP Turn 7. I would have taken the damage and given them the 5 life. Rune + Bound in Gold used up most of their mana.
  • Turn 7. Okay Feed the Serpent the Giant blocker (luckily not giving them any life gain) and let's swing. And boast + Kardur FTW.
Game 9
  • Opening Hand/Turn 1. Reasonable with 1 Swamp + 2 Mountains. Liberator on 2 and Arni on 3.
  • Turn 2. Liberator. Koma's Faithful might be a better 3.
  • OP Turn 2. Nice that OP is hitting their curve perfectly. That's a hard thing to stop.
  • Turn 3. I did not realize that Runes replace themselves. Also mana does not line up, where I would have cast Duskwielder and Rune. Koma's Faithful isn't a bad choice here to block Fynn.
  • OP Turn 3. Hitting curve perfectly, sigh. Toughness 3 on 2, 4 on turn 3. Dang.
  • Turn 4. No land. This isn't good. Probably should have played Rune here to hopefully draw a land. Arne does nothing right now.
  • OP Turn 4. Tapped land and probably will get a Manalith out.
  • Turn 5. Another non land. Again, probably should cast the Rune of Mortality, so if I get a land, I can get Shadow in Foretell.
  • OP Turn 5. Uh oh. Immersturm Dragon. And Saga.
  • Turn 6. If there was any way to kill one of their creatures I would be able to cast Tegrid's Shadow and get rid of that Dragon. I guess the Saga is the only hope to wipe the board. Hopefully they don't bring out more creatures.
  • OP Turn 6. Arni and the Predator sigh. Heart sinks when they cast the Mentor and bring out the other Elf and then Seeker comes out. And Predator of course removes from graveyard - such the bad matchup for me.
  • Turn 7. Get rid of Swamp. Hope Rune finds another swamp. Otherwise, I'm kind of stuck.
  • OP Turn 7. Of course another Arni Saga
  • Turn 8. Not much I can do here. About to get thumped next turn. So Close.
