Learning to Draft Magic the Gathering

I first played Magic the Gathering with Alpha Cards. A co-worker had brought them back from Gen-Con and we all learned to play with Ante and the original cards. I was still a Senior in College and I continued playing for a few years. After 3 years at that company, I moved from the East Coast to the West Coast and I sold my entire Magic collection. Black Lotus for $30, 3 Moxes for $10 each. Numerous Legends, Antiquities, Arabian Nights, and original Beta/Unlimited cards.

I stopped playing seriously for decades. And in 2018, my sons found some cards I had collected on the side since I sold my collection and I got back into it. I started with Core Set 2019 and got some Dominaria at same time and haven't left. Once Arena started, I became a Constructed focused person using net decks to let me focus on just playing the core game.

With each set release, I would do 1-2 sealed and the free token Draft. From Guilds of Ravnica until Core Set 2021. With Zendikar Rising, I decided to go deep into Draft. And boy do I love it. There's so much strategy here and really maximizing value out of each set. I know each and every card in the set.

So now I want to start the next step function after 50 drafts to start blogging about my drafts and game. When I was a big online poker player, I had a blog where I would walk a reader through a tournament or hand. This really helped my game to spell it all out. In the end, I was doing it more for myself than my audience as I would have to explain my choices and that really helped my game.

So hopefully I'll keep this up and will be running for years as you can watch me get better at Drafting and playing Magic.
